Experiences with IDS 9.40
Posted in 2004
Andrew Watson reported that Ardenta's testing of IDS 9.40 (FC1–FC3) hit show-stopper bugs serious enough that they advised risk-averse clients to postpone upgrading, with details on their website; he was more positive about the new btscanner replacing btcleaner for index cleaning. Paul Watson said he was moving sites off 9.40.FC2W4 because of defect 164873, and when asked what it was (IBM's defect query having been retired), Madison Pruet explained it was a physical log/btree cleaner problem, fixed in 9.4UC3.

Posting title - Experiences with IDS 9.40 Ardenta has been testing IDS 9.40 (FC1, 2 and 3WC2) and we have found a couple of show stoppers that have forced us to recommend to our more risk adverse clients that they defer their plans to upgrade. Should you be considering upgrading you may find the description of these problems in http://www.ardenta.com/informix_dynamic_server.htm useful. Although these have proved serious enough to stop the upgrade, other testing with 9.40 has been more positive including the new btscanner, which replaced the btcleaner used to handle index cleaning. The btscanner is far more flexible and can be configured in a number of different ways, an example of which is outlined in the above report --- Andrew Watson t: +44 1932 724271 Technical Analyst e: andrew.watson@ardenta.com Ardenta Limited www.ardenta.com
We're just moving some sites from 9.40.FC4W to FC3, bug no 164873. Can you share the bug description with us, as (I believe I am right in saying) the Product Defect Query has recently been (in IBM-speak) "retired"? Also, what's 9.40FC4W? We've just been given an FC3W2: FC4 is not available until April, as Andy said.
