Informix plays nicely with OpenOffice thru JDBC - this is how

After a lot of struggle, googling and rtfms it boils down to this:
Environment:
Server: IDS 7.22 on SCO openserver
Client: Fedora core 2, j2re 1.4.2, OpenOffice 1.1.2
Steps to setup client:
1. Create informix user and group: useradd -d /opt/informix -m
informix
passwd informix
2. Append the following to /etc/profile:
export INFORMIXDIR=/opt/informix
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/opt/informix/lib/cli:/opt/informix/lib/esql
export INFORMIXSERVER=kr
export PATH=":$PATH:/opt/informix/bin"
3. logout and login as root
4. Add the service entry to /etc/services. eg:
online 1425/tcp
5. Download from www.informix.com/evaluate: connect.2.81.UC2.LINUX.tar
6. untar it someplace
mkdir /u/c
tar -C /u/c -xvf connect.2.81.UC2.LINUX.tar
cd $INFORMIXDIR
cpio -icumdvI /u/c/conn.cpi
./installconn
7. Add your server entry to /opt/informix/etc/sqlhosts e.g:
informixservername onsoctcp hostname online
8. Download from www.informix.com/evaluate: JDBC.2.21.JC5.tar
9. Untar and install
mkdir /u/j
tar -C /u/j -xvf JDBC.2.21.JC5.tar
cd /u/j
java -cp setup.jar run
10. Start openoffice and add jdbc path:
tools-> options-> security, browse and add class path
/IBM/InformixJDBCDriver2.21.JC5/lib/ifxjdbc.jar
11. define data source
tools-> data sources -> new data source -> enter new ds name
choose database type as jdbc
jdbc tab: jdbc driver class: com.informix.jdbc.IfxDriver
url: jdbc:informix-sqli://<server hostname or
ip>:1425/<database>:INFORMIXSERVER=<first field of sqlhost entry>
enter username and tick password required.
click on tables tab, it should ask you the password.
It should show you the tables.
You can now build queries.
12. Check out documentation.openoffice.org, howto, how to link tables.
13. Try data pilot in openoffice.
Enjoy.
Hope this helps someone. This can be made to work even if the IDS is
on Linux host or on localhost.
I was not able to make this work through ODBC.
Have a nice day.
Dubal.

So, this means that step 1-7 is really not needed? Or am I missing something?
