machine upgrade

Hi all, We currently run a number of Online instances, one per sparc2 and are looking to move all the instances onto a one major cpu horse, whilst still using the sparc2's as client frontends. The question is, which server to go for. We are thinking about a SparcServer 1000/2000 or SGI Challenge - something of that ilk. Does anyone have experience of going through this loop or have recommendations/reservations? What are the commparative virtues of these machines running Online? Any comments gratefully recieved.
