Odd Infromix ODBC problem..?
Posted in 2003
Hi All, I have been developing a C++ MFC SDI Windows application for my company and have run into a last-minute problem that I can't seem to figure out. I was wondering if anyone out there had some wisdom or input? The problem: One of our quality assurance testers has setup a new computer and installed the application. When she tries to login, the application reads 3 values from a local *.ini file: dsn, usr, and pwd. These values are saved to member variables and used to open a connectionPtr and test a connection to a database. The following line of code performs this action... m_conn->Open(_bstr_t( m_odbc_dsn ), _bstr_t( m_odbc_usr ), _bstr_t( UnHash((char*)m_odbc_pwd.GetBuffer(0)) ), -1); ...this code is in a try{}catch{} block and when exectued on her computer, she receives an "unspecified error" message. Now I know there could be a slew of possible reasons so I will tell you what I know... The application is running with no problems on all other computers thus far (about 7 total), 2 of the other computers are running the same Windows 2000 Pro as her computer and one of the other computers is running Windows XP. We are all using the same Informix database with the latest Informix driver: 3.80 32 bit, and we all have the same ODBC connection and *.ini file configurations. The application calls GetPrivateProfileString() to read the *.ini file values and calls GetModuleFileName() to retrieve the correct system drive letter and generate a correct path to the *.ini file. 2 of the computers running the app do not use C: as their default system install and those computers (mine included) retrieve the *.ini keys just fine. Any ideas on what could be the problem? I will also post this message in an MFC C++ newsgroup. Thanks, Nate
