Re: ODBC via MS Access.

It sounds a like you are trying to create an application with MS Access. Although Microsoft intended that applications could be made with Access their whole design is flawed for this purpose. MS Access is very nice for ad hoc sql queries and for making reports, but not usefull at all for application development. Delphi and even Visual Basic is much better for this purpose. With even a minimal effort you will see very substantial performance increases and particularly with Delphi you can do very much better application designs. Another thing is that even MS Access shouldn't take this long to return one row (assuming there is an index that is used to access it). You are however using so old technology that I can't propose anything that *will* work appart from an upgrade to MS Windows 95 or NT and a 32 bit version of MS Access. To use WFW 3.11 now isn't worth the effort unless you have very significant economic restraints and cheap human labor available. Even then it's doubtfull. Whether you can upgrade or not you should also try the OpenLink ODBC drivers (available for a free trial download at http://www.openlinksw.com). They should give you much better performance and a lot of other very usefull functionality. Be sure to read their ODBC white paper available at the same site. ck898@FreeNet.Carleton.CA (Somnuk Srivisal) wrote: :Backend is RISC 6000 running online 5.01. :Front end is WFW 3.11 with intersolv ODBC. :I am using attached table.
