Well how about this then:-
SELECT field1, field2, "TR" a_col_name FROM table1 WHERE some_conditions1
UNION
SELECT field1, field2, "SH" FROM table1 WHERE some_conditions2
INTO TEMP temp_table
That should give you a temp table with three columns:
< field1, field2, a_col_name >
