Pages & Chunks Question

I am looking for some understanding about machine page size and chunk calculations. We are an HP 9000 site, running informix online 5.03. Page Size: Our tbconfig file says the BUFFSIZE is 2048, 2 kb. Chunk page/byte relationship is in 2 kb increments. Documentation indicates that this is a non-configurable parameter. Where does informix pick up machine page size? I had been told that the HP unix platform uses 2 kb page size, but then read the manual! The "How HP Unix Works" manual states: "Pages are the smallest contiguous block of physical memory that can be allocated for storing data and processes. As of the current release, the page size of all HP-UX systems is 4 KB." Is this an apples and oranges thing? Chunks: We have 6 dbspaces defined on raw devices. I added chunks for the 1st time recently. A chunk is added by specifying kbytes. Dbspaces shows chunk allocation by pages. Tbmonitor does the translation by dividing kbytes by 2000. Why not 2048? How does the number of pages shown by dbspaces equate to the actual physical disk allocation (logical volume, LV, size)? Thanks for any guidance. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -- -- -- Dick Augustus Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University -- -- augustur@db.erau.edu (904)226-7609, voice -- -- (904)226-6220, fax -- -- -- -- "For most people, the sky is the limit; for those who love -- -- aviation, the sky is home." - Jack R.
