Can changes to the schema be automatically maintained in a system catalog, or elsewhere, when ALTERing the schema with DBACCESS or an SQL proc?.. Although for years I have been manually documenting any changes, it would be very desirable for the server record these changes.

No is the simple answer. However, Informix comes with an AGS Server Studio basic license and a 30 day free trial of the full enterprise license for both Server Studio and Sentinel. Sentinel has the ability to not only take periodic snapshots of your schema and server configuration states and store them in its repository, it will automatically notify you when something changes. So if someone makes an unauthorized schema or ONCONFIG file change you will get an email alert. If you give that a try and like it, you can upgrade to a permanent enterprise license. Art Art S.
