Mixed-Case Column Names ????

Hello: We are new to Informix, and I created some tables that had column names containing a mix of upper and lower case alpha characters. When I looked into the SYSCOLUMNS catalog table afterwards, the column names showed up as ALL lower case. The manual says that an identifier (which includes column names) can contain lower case AND upper case. Does Informix just ignore the upper case? Is this an ANSI compliance thing? Some specifics: Informix-Online (V 6.0) DB Engine running on AIX 3.2.5. DB-Access (command files) were used to create the tables. Thanks. ....
