ANSI mode and logging questions

Hello, I am new to database. I have two questions. In our system, we need to update two identical databases , of which one acts as a backup. 1. We have two sets of data, one which is very important and the other which is not so important compared to the first one. I would like to create the database with unbuffered log in case of first set of data and I think it's an overkill for the second set of data. Is there any way to specify to treat few tables as unbuffered log and others as buffered (pardon me if it's a stupid Q) I thought of this solution: create two databases, one for each set and set the log appropriately. But this creates the possibility of opening and closing the datasbes frequently (since you can't open two datasbes at the same time). Any thoughts... 2. What are the advantages and disadvantages (as far as programming and performance is concerned) in creating the databse in ANSI mode? Our Environment: Sol 2.3, Informix Online 5.0 My advance thanks. --srini Srinivasan Raman T KENETECH Windpower Inc., 6952, Preston Avenue, Livermore, CA 94550 (510)455 3252 anl!srini@netcom.com
