Re: Help in emulating an Informix form

I wanted to thank everyone who responded to my query about emulating a 4GL form, by some means other than the Informix forms, in order to reduce traffic over our WAN. To summarize, no one appears to have attempted this. The suggestions mostly contained the opinion that it would be difficult to better the performance while keeping the character mode on. We could use block mode but then we would lose the field level controls. One way to reduce network traffic would be to place some kind of processing power near the terminals. Unfortunately, this is not an alternative in our case, due to the large geographic dispersion of users. Some of the things we are trying, include concatenating the "display only" fields into one long string with some newlines built into it, so it will travel in 1 single packet. We will also try to reduce some of the attributes of the fields such as UPPERCASE and INVISIBLE. A faster WAN would also be nice. Cheers, Atul.
