In v 7.22 TFM, near the back, in the index, I find the following references:
Dbspace
[...]
Creating a temporary 15-10
Creating during initial
configuration 3-33
Creating with ON-Monitor 15-10
Creating with onspaces 15-11
Creating, overview 15-9
Since it is the 90's, I checked the online version of TFM (now conveniently
stored on my hard disk) and its Search feature reports 7 "hits" on the phrase
"create dbspace." I highly recommend it for searches and just for being
handy.
While I was at it, I checked out the index of Carlton Doe's new book
(Informix-OnLine Dynamic Server Handbook, from the Informix Press),
which is an excellent entry-level supplement to TFM, and found another
entry under Dbspace, creating.
In addition to all that, if you are using one of the NT products, you will
have to use the Informix Enterprise Command Center. It has its own GUI
methods of creating dbspaces. Had you included version and platform
information
in your post (always a good idea) you would get more specific responses.
I recommend you sign up for one of the OnLine System Administration courses
which will provide a good environment for perusing the manuals, playing with
the products, and absorbing useful information from other DBAs. They are
well worth the time.
Also, join a User Group to meet like-minded people and to share knowledge.
When you get that knowledge, remember to share it back.
Finally, I prefer to use ON-Monitor to create dbspaces. It's just easier
for me
than the other methods.
