RE: Informix & System Date

Dirk Firstly timestamps bear no relation to the actual time or date!! It is simply an ever incrementing number that is stamped on each page as it is changed (when it reaches its hughly positive limit it goes hughly negative and increments back to zero. I do not believe there will be any problems with Informix if you do this. Basically this is what we did (admittedly with online 5) to test Y2K compliance on our application back in 1999. What opportunities it may present to you application is another story and no doubt one you are aware of. (I assume you are doing this to 'bend' the application to doing something 'special') Keith -----Original Message----- From: Dirk Moolman [mailto:DirkM@mxgroup.co.za] Sent: Thursday, July 15, 2004 3:09 PM To: informix-list@iiug.org Subject: Informix & System Date Question: if I shut down Informix, set the date on the Unix server 1 month ahead in time, and start up Informix - and then after a week or so, reverse the process, will this do any damage to Informix ? I know that timestamps are used on the disk pages, but I don't know what affect a change like this will have on Informix.
