Urgent!! Question about add chunk

Hi all, I have the question about add chunk. I accustom add chunk using the block special device. But refer to document from INFORMIX, they suggest using the character special devices. Is there any side effect I keep to use the block special file for chunks adding or they have no difference? Anyone can help me. Thank you very much. Regards, Mike Ng
