Detached Indexes (Baan/Informix)

Hi, I recently posted a message querying my Baan and Informix set up. One of the replies suggested that I should avoid having detached indexes. However all of the indexes on the systems I have taken over are detached and are on a separate dbspace. Is this a problem? If so why? Should I be thinking about re-attaching my indexes?
