Application performance problem

IDS 7.31FD3
HP-UX 11i.
I have an application running a montlhy program and it slows down now
and evetually hangs. This program ( basically a report generator written
4GL to summarise activities over a months processing)
It used to run about an hour.
Since las tfriday it seems to hang forever.
It get to a certain state in the middle of a select statement and it
stops here.
The session doesn't show any read write activity anymore checking it
using the onstat commands.
There are no errors reported at application level so I can't really
blame the application.
My question : could data structures in general (columns,tables etc...)
cause a program to hang. Again as it is not returning any error codes
but just sits there forever.
Could be a bad system hogging query of course but it had been running
smoothly till now.
any help suggestions would be appreciated.

I've also seen a similar instance on an HP-UX 11i version ... could you
just make sure that the following patches are on the box.

If they are there, please open up a case with Tech support.
