Question about Run dates

I have been asked to ask this question. We are about to implement a project into production where many batch programs will run at night. Since there are two calender days at nighttime, the use of the system date and time may cause some problems. The idea we're kicking around is to use some sort of "run-date". I was asked if there was some sort of informix utility to handle "run-date" out in the universe. So I'll ask this question. But beyond this , what are other people doing? What are you doing ?
