mt-safe ESQL/C programming

Informix says "there is only one current connection with the application at a time.". This announcement confuses me a little. Suppose that there are two threads each has an active connection of its own. If the one thread processes some SQLs within one transaction taking about 5minutes, can the other thread process another SQLs simultaneously? If not, the latter thread should wait the former ends the processing? Anyone answers me. Thanks in advance.
