Missing data on DBEXPORT/DBIMPORT
Posted in 1996
Our site using is using Informix Online DSA V6.00.UE3 on a HP platform (9.04), we are soon to upgrade to hp-ux 10.10 and Informix 7.xx.
On performing a dbexport/dbimport of our production database, to reorganise it,
we came across the following problem: one important table consisting of two columns, a serial column and a text column, did not get ANY data reloaded into the text column. The serial data was reloaded fine into all rows, but no TEXT data.
This dbexport/dbimport was to tape with standard flags:
"dbexport DBNAME -t /dev/rmt/0hc -b 512 -s 2097151 -f DBNAME.SQL -ss"
No errors were reported at all and only data seems to be missing from this one table. The output from dbexport and dbimport was fine, and the nothing was reported differently for the table in question to all the other tables.
I then ran the dbexport to disk (size of database is roughly 2.5 Gb, 300 tables), and looked at the unload file for the table containing the TEXT blob column and found that there was no data unloaded for the TEXT column (just two delimiters), the serial column had the data unloaded fine, and the number of lines matchedthe number of rows (64500 approx.). NOTE: I did not specify the "-d" flag on the dbexport. So it seems to be dbexport where the problem lies?
The annoying thing is I cannot recreate this problem in our test environments, which have the same structure as production (schema wise) but much less data of course. All the dbexports/dbimports work fine, as does a single SQL unload of the problem table..
Has anyone experienced this problem? If so I would be extremely grateful for some pointers!
