ISVs are a great boon to a database (and used to be > Informix's strength), but there needs to be general product awareness too. > The two go hand-in-hand. > Yup. That's why you see Oracle *everywhere*. No one got fired for chosing Oracle these days. You used to say that about IBM. Now? Not so sure. Many shops are "IBM as last choice". Case in point. I know a company runs Oracle. Has Rational Clear Case. (Customer that bought Rational products prior to IBM buying Rational.) They needed an ETL product. (Not really sure they could have developed one in house for less than the cost of the product....) They didn't look at Ass-n-tail Datastage. Went with Informatica without blinking an eye. The point is that the perception in the marketplace is not favorable to IBM. S&D still has this IBM arrogance and it doesn't play well outside of Aligned and Integrated accounts. And even in them... IBM has some interesting times... ;-) This and the lack of press/publications on IDS doesn't help a lot either. Its time for those in the know to think outside of the box. I did not know about the DB2 advertising. I think that its interesting, and it does show that the user community is truly global. -G _________________________________________________________________ In a rush?
