In answer to your questions: Yes, Yes, and Yes
Yes(1) : Archecker would be able to verify your archives without a full
restore.
Yes(2) : You could expect to trust Archecker to alert you about a "good" or
"bad" archive.
*** NOTE: please notice that I did not say that Archecker would tell
you if the DATA in the
archive was good or bad (data corruption, bad data entry...) -- it
would tell you if you are missing
pages from the archive or if the pages were mangled... ( page hdrs
corrupt, etc - see the following errors
from a V5 archive - V7 reports the same info ).
ERROR: BAD PAGE 10000a: pg_frptr 0 < sizeof(page_t) 24 or > RPAGESIZ

ERROR: BAD PAGE 10000b: pg_frptr 0 < sizeof(page_t) 24 or > RPAGESIZ

Yes(3) : it is only available from Informix -- contact your sales rep -- if
you have problems email me direct -- I'm running
K2XX systems w/ DLT's also... ;^)

Subject: Archecker
Greetings,
I have acquired a DLT tape drive (20gb tapes) as the
potential replacement for a DAT tape drive (4gb tapes). I
use ontape to perform daily database backups. Due to
time and database size constraints I do not wish to
perform a full system restore to verify the functionality of
archiving to this media. During the past several months
the utility known as "archecker" has been mentioned as a
mechanism to verify an archive. Will this tool be able to
verify the archive without performing a restore? Would I
be able to trust those results without a restore? I can't find
the utility on the IIUG site as David Williams mentions.
More important, Art Kagel states that this utility is only
available from Informix. Is this the only way to acquire this
utility?
