shared memory problems

Hi I am having some difficulty getting some programs to work on a linux box (they are being ported from an HP9000) The problem I am (currently) having is that one of the processes requires shared memory to be allocated. The program requests two loads of shared memory , the first call succeeds and returns the memory address, the second succeeds but returns NULL. I have read that you can configure in lilo.conf a parameter that will allocate some of your memory as shared. I am a bit wary of this as the shared memory probably should be for use specifically by informix programs - and I am wary of lilo at the best of times :) In the onconfig file I have set shmbase=0x1 shmvirtsize=8000 smadd=8192 shmtotal=0 Am I missing something or is the truth somewhere out there!? Thanks John H.
