Variable field with 300 characters

I am very greatful to everyone who has responded to my mail in the past. I have a one problem with INFORMIX/4GL that I don't know how to resolve it. I have a note field that is 300 characters long so when the form was generated it splitt into 4 lines. I am using the DEFINE item RECORD LIKE project.* SQL table has a column ITEM defined as 300 chracters long. I have the following insert statement which fails. So, how should I write the variable name for NOTE field in Insert statement? Remeber, I have 4 lines in form. INSERT INTO project VALUES (project.project_no, project.note) By the way, Is there any 4GL book with lots of exxamples? If there is could you tell me where can I purchase it? Thanks in advance. Ruchi.
