Informix 7.14 under single-processor HPUX systems had/has a major problem
where no matter how you set the engine up, the oninit process priority would
age and the database would get slower and slower and slower. Informix has
been working on it; I've seen behavior such as you say, but when I saw it, I
don't think it was related to a specific query; it seemed to be more related
to how long the engine had been up and how much the databases had been used in
that period.
HP does has a patch that can put the engine into a separate process group and
let you manually set the priority. You might want to contact them and
Informix for the latest word.
