Re: RAC in Informix by year end?
Posted in 2007
A poster quoted a DBTA magazine article claiming IBM would deliver update (write) capability for IDS MACH 11 SDS secondary servers by the end of the year, making it an alternative to Oracle RAC, and asked whether Informix was really getting RAC-like functionality. Madison Pruet (IBM engineering) said it was news to him and asked for the source; Mark Townsend (Oracle) argued RSS/SDS are nothing like RAC and called the positioning marketing spin. Pruet effectively denied the timeline with a joke that the only things happening before year end were OnDemand and the holidays, and the thread then drifted into banter about holidays. No confirmation or resolution of the claim is recorded.

Madison - interesting comment that it's news to you - We have definitely seen IBM position RSS and SDS as a RAC-like alternative. Here's an example that comes straight out of the IBM sales play book - http://www.informixcity.com/downloads/IDS%20GA%20vs%20RAC%20Tri%20Fold%20DSnow%2006062007..pdf Of course RDS and SDS are nothing like RAC at all. This sort of stuff from IBM is very bush league and easily shown to not be credible.

Mark, The only things that I know of which are going to occur prior to year end are: 1) IBM's OnDemand Conference in Las Vegas 2) Halloween 3) Thanksgiving 4) Christmas Anything else is news to me.
