Thanks in advance. > ramki. Informix distribute a report by the Hurlitz group (Judith Hurlitz) which covers a lot of the structural issues vs Powerbuilder, Gupta etc.. Yes Informix distribute it but Judith Hurlitz follows the same line when being interviewed by DBMS magazine and the arguments seem valid. We are presently undertaking an initial application in NewEra and my personal opinion is that it is sound architecturally but lacks immediate ease of use in the interface when compared to other tools. The upside is that this is configurable via the extensibility of the structure. Personally I would have preferred that Informix generated a bit more of the 'noddy' code for me. But this is after all only version 1.0 We went for NewEra because of the architecture and scalability and are prepared to put up with having to write our own wrappers for commonly used objects to start with. It depends what you want it for. Fast prototyping is better in MS Access but it doesn't scale. Re conversion of 4gls. It depends on how modular and well structured your 4gls are. A comment I had today from a software house was that there would probably re-code their app rather than just do a conversion. The reason being that yes you can use a lot of the code but the design of the app is procedural. There are taking the opportunity to re-engineer. Performance I can't answer. What I can say is that the most productive development environment is a bit more grunty than the minimums outlined by Informix. We are going for 486/100s with 24-32 Meg of Ram. In the training sessions Informix use Pentiums.
