we are running 7.11 on Solaris 2.4 and have been seeing the following
problem. (our clients are all sunos 4.1.4, using 4.X tools). when we start
isql on the client, and do a database - select, the session hangs until
another session (isql on a client or dbaccess on the server) does the same,
which actually establishes a connection to the server. once the other session
has done a database - select, the first process frees up, and it is then
possible to work. if you do another database - select, however, it hangs
again until the same sequence is reapeated; another session makes a connection.
informix has reproduced this and identified it as a bug and is working
on it. they found a workaround in the meantime, and that is to remove all
NETTYPE entries from the onconfig file. now things work fine. of course,
this means that for the time being i lose the fine tuning that these paramaters
give, but that is ok considering what i gain.
we have seen the same problem connecting (and disconnecting) in an
esql/c program, so you might want to try this.
let me know what happens, and i will try to get to your program today.
by the way, are you running the program on the server? on the solaris box?
