Global variable in a stored procedure
Posted in 2017
On Solaris/IDS 11.50, UPDATE STATISTICS ON PROCEDURE for a whole database failed with error 699 (global variable ksavage.use_fuzzy5mbid declared inconsistently), but the variable couldn't be found in the dbschema -ss output. Art Kagel suggested querying sysprocedures/sysprocbody (datakey='T') with a MATCHES pattern on the variable name, and Mike Walker suggested wrapping it in lower() for case differences; neither returned rows. Running UPDATE STATISTICS per procedure (as dostats does) let the poster process all 309 procedures and isolate two with inconsistent global declarations, though none mentioned the fuzzy5mbid variable. The original error's source was never identified, so no real resolution is recorded.

I am trying to do a
UPDATE STATISTICS ON PROCEDURE
on one of our databases. I receive the following error.
699: Global variable (ksavage.use_fuzzy5mbid) declared inconsistently.
I have run the following to get a look at the stored procedures.
dbschema -ss -d database > file_name
I can't find that variable anywhere in any procedure. Where else should/can I
look to try to find the variable?
Larry
select procname
from sysprocedures sp, sysprocbody spb
where sp.procid = spb.procid
and datakey = 'T'
and data matches '*[ ,]use_fuzzy5mbid[ ,]*';

I tried it with spaces before the commas below and without spaces before the
comments below (in the brackets) and no rows are returned.

Have you tried looking for references in upper case?

The spaces should be there. The variable name is preceded and followed by
either a space or a comma. Hmm. Don't know what that means. This query
should find any definition like:
define global use_fuzzy5mbid type;
define global barney,use_fuzzy5mbid, freddy type;
You could try adding a tab character to the search, but ...

Hmm. Try running the update statistics for each procedure individually,
that's what dostats does. At worst it should show you which procedure
causes the error! It might just get past it that way.

Ooooo. DUH! Or mixed case!. So:
select procname
from sysprocedures sp, sysprocbody spb
where sp.procid = spb.procid
and datakey = 'T'
and lower(data) matches '*[ ,]use_fuzzy5mbid[ ,]*';

I created a script to update all 309 stored procedures manually.
Two of the stored procedures errored out with a similar error of inconsistent
global variable declaration, but there was no mention of the fuzzy5mbid.
Curious.

where sp.procid = spb.procid
and datakey = 'T'
and lower(data) matches '*[ ,]use_fuzzy5mbid[ ,]*';

I get the impression that I may have in the past, but I can find no evidence
of anything called "use_fuzzy5mbid" anywhere now.
