Hello, I want to ask you something? We will install on a machine AIX a version of Informix and we have two possibilities: Install RDS tools, Debugger, SQL ... addition of the application on the same machine, or install the version for Linux on a Linux machine and install there the application (compiled in Linux) and attack from there the Informix database we have on the AIX THE question I have is knowing what you think the right thing, especially in the AIX mount or the engine in the AIX and tools in linux (does this would cause problems?. I also like to know your opinion on what would happen next versions of the engine ... Thank you very much for your help
It is always a good thing to isolate the database engine as much as possible from other workloads. Then you can maximize the server's use of memory and I/O volume and bandwidth without worrying about affecting other processes. I would go with running the client applications on the Linux machine and the server on the AIX box. Art Art S. Thanks,Art but the main question I have is the following. IF we must change the AIX version and we must change the IDS engine, is sure if they have to change tools such as SQL, they will secure for that version of AIX but may not change the SQL for Linux and we would have a problem. Can it be?
It should not be a problem. The Linux-Intel licenses are less expensive than the AIX-PowerPC licenses, so I don't believe that IBM will give you any grief. As long as you have an existing maintenance on the products you should be able to swap the licenses and your support for the next year should be reduced a bit. Art Art S.
