SLOOOOW compilation 4gl
Posted in 1996
Anybody seen this one? Running 4gl on RS6000 Model 340. Running i4gl 6.01.ud2 and isql 6.01.ud1 Installed upgrade to online engine to 7.11.uc1 from 7.10.uc2 Installation was in correct order and things seem to be working correctly BUT compiling under i4gl has slowed to a crawl. Compilations that ran < 5 minutes have gone to > 25 minutes and the compile processes are consuming almost realtime in machine time which crunches anything else. Informix suggests there might be a c-compiler patch we need, but we have another installation on campus where users experience terribly slow compiling on another RS6000 platform and they received and applied some patch. Why the online engine should impact us I don't know. Other than checking out column characteristics to resolve "define ..... like" declarations the database should be pretty independent of the compilation. The excessive time occurs in the third phase of the compilation when a process called xlcentry is running. Any clues -- Con Woodall Colorado St. U.; Veterinary Teach. Hosp.; Ft.
