Case-insensitive LIKE select - is it possible?

Greetings all, I have a (simple?) problem which is causing a great deal of trouble. Is there any way to get Informix to do a case-insensitive comparison in the WHERE clause of a SELECT statement? (ie SELECT * FROM sometable WHERE detailfield LIKE %spaghetti%). I'm coding in Netscape LiveWire Pro with Informix 7.12. My only othersolution is to convert each returned string to lower case and compare with the search string, but this defeats the object of using the database (speed).
