Drastic Reduction in transaction logging
Posted in 1996
Greetings,
We have Online 7.12 UC1 currently, we started up on 7.10 about 6 months
ago. We are logging our transactions using ontape -c. When we first started
the database in production we were writing as many as 100 logs a day. We
had to regularly change the 4mm tape we were writing to twice a day to keep
up with the volume. Since an engine restart about 6 weeks ago we have only
been writing about 100 logs a day. The volume dropped over 90%!! The
only setting we changed in the onconfig file was PDQPRIORITY. When we
started up it was set at 1, we changed it to 0 because we had no fragmented
tables and felt that the PDQPRIORITY might be hindering rather than helping
performance.
Has anyone else experienced this phenomenon?
Is PDQPRIORITY responsible for this, or are there other onconfig
settings we should review?
TIA
