MULTIPROCESSOR QUESTION

HI WANT TO KNOW WHAT IS THE RECOMENDED VALUE FOR PARAMETER MULTIPROCESSOR ON INFORMIX 7.21 DBMS ON UNIX SO with multiprocessor server. IS REALLY THAT IF THE SERVER HAVE 2 OR MORE PROCESSORS EVEN THE PARAMETER MUST SET TO 0 (SINGLE PROCESSOR) THANKS.
You should NOT be using 7.21 -- it is not Y2K-compliant. You should be setting MULTIPROCESSOR to 1 if you have more than one CPU on the box. Unless, perhaps, you have fancy partitioning s/w and h/w so that as far as your database server goes, it really only has one CPU it can use. -- Jonathan Leffler (jleffler@us.ibm.com) STSM, Informix Database Engineering, IBM Data Management 4100 Bohannon Drive, Menlo Park, CA 94025 Tel: +1 650-926-6921 Tie-Line: 630-6921 "I don't suffer from insanity; I enjoy every minute of it!" |---------+----------------------------> | | "JUAN MANUEL...."| | | <jmp54@email.com>| | | Sent by: | | | forum.subscriber@| | | iiug.org | | | | | | | | | 05/08/2003 07:09 | | | AM | | | | |---------+----------------------------> >------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------| | | | To: ids@iiug.org | | cc: | | Subject: MULTIPROCESSOR QUESTION [1095] | | | >------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------| HI WANT TO KNOW WHAT IS THE RECOMENDED VALUE FOR PARAMETER MULTIPROCESSOR ON INFORMIX 7.21 DBMS ON UNIX SO with multiprocessor server. Something I was told about 7 years ago by someone in the Informix ATG:- On a 2 cpu box set MULTIPROCESSOR to 0 as using the Informix RECOMMENDED setting of NUMCPUVPS to <num of cpu> - 1 only leaves (errrm, let me guess!) 1 cpu. Setting MULTIPROCESSOR to 1 and NUMCPUVPS to 1 means you will pass through the multiprocesor code for no reason and may even be slower than setting MULTIPROCESSOR to 0. An interesting thought? Don't shoot me I'm only the messenger!
