Errno 4 is a EINTR, not a permissions problem. 0666 or 0660 will work for
permissions. Ownere and group look fine. Check device functionaity. EINTR is an
interupted system call, this is typical of a failed drive, or a misbehaving
drive. run fuser (or have your sysadm run it) on the device make sure no one
else has a latch on it.
