NewEra questions & confusion
Posted in 1996
We are beginning a development effort in which we will use either the INFORMIX OnLine 7.2 or SE as our database engine. As part of this effort we are (were) considering using the NewEra GUI development suite. As I try to evaluate this product, I become more and more confused. The following questions are targeted to a diverse group (technical, sales, etc).... but if you can either confirm or provide answers to any of the following I'd really appreciate it. A little background - We are developing a new system that will be fielded on a HP 715/100 workstation running HP-UX 10.10. As I stated previously, we will use either the INFORMIX OnLine 7.2 or SE as our database engine. We have several Windows NT machines available that could be used to support this effort. Questions: 1.) Version 2.12 is the most current release of the NewEra product for windows. 2.) NewEra version 2.12 will "run" under Windows 3.11 but NOT Windows NT. 3.) NewEra version 3.xx will "run" under Windows NT. 4.) When will NewEra version 3.xx be released? 5.) What version of the Microsoft Visual C++ product will NewEra version 3.0 support? Is this the Visual C++ Standard Edition or do you need the Enterprise Edition? 6.) NewEra version 1.02 is the last version for Motif..... specifically for development under HP-UX 10.10. 7.) What development tools are needed to use NewEra version 1.02? Since the Windows version needs C++, I assume this is a requirement for the Motif (HP-UX 10.10) version? 8.) The result or product of any development "conducted" under the NewEra for Windows can be ported to HP-UX and recompiled transparently. 9.) NewEra version 1.02 & 2.12 can be upgraded, without cost, to NewEra version 3.x when it is released. 10.) Any comments, suggestions, recommendations concerning the NewERa product would be *greatly* appreciated. Eddie Roberts
