Error starting IDS
Hi All,
I am facing following problem in starting IDS 7.3 on AIX 4.3 =
machine. I will appreciate if someone can help me in it. There is no =
space issue on any filesystem.
21:26:33 cannot open primary chunk '/dev/online_root', errno=3D2
oninit: cannot open chunk '/dev/online_root', errno=3D2
oninit: Fatal error in shared memory initialization.
21:26:33 Informix Dynamic server stopped.
21:26:33 mt_shm_remove: WARNING:may not have removed all/correct =
segments.
Informix not ready yet!

Hi,
most probably the file '/dev/online_root' does not exist
on your system.
You have to create the chunk files (in this case the file
for the root chunk of root dbspace) before starting IDS.
When creating the chunk file, make sure that it:
- is owned by user "informix",
- belongs to group "informix",
- has file access attributes like this "-rw-rw----"
which corresponds to chmod bit pattern "660".
Alternatively, if you created a file for the root chunk of root dbspace,
but that file has a different name, you should edit your $ONCONFIG
file and put that filename as value for parameter "ROOTPATH".
Due to the format of your e-mail, some escape characters
got into your e-mail (see below). I strongly suspect
that "errno=3D2" actually should be "errno=2", which means
that the file doesn't exist ...

/dev/online_root is suspicious, it is the DUMMY name given to the root chunk in
the sample ONCONFIG file onconfig.std! Is this a new installation/instance?
You need to modify onconfig.std to create your own onconfig file, say:
onconfig.myserver and set the ONCONFIG environment variable to that name. Then
modify parameters in the file like ROOTNAME to your own values. The filepath
listed as ROOTNAME must exist, must have permissions 660 and must be owned by
user informix and group informix. Then you can start online with "oninit -i"
which will create the initial root chunk of the server.
