Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
Hi.
Try the following.
select zzz() return_from_proc where tabid = 1;
---
create procecure zzz (returning char(10));
return "ZZZ";
end procedure
---
Results
return_from_proc
ZZZ

In 9.30 and 9.40 it is possible to do ....
select get_code_desc(1) from systables where tabid = 1;
which returns :
(expression)
wk_desc
and :
select get_code_dec(1) type from systables where tabid = 1;
which returns :
type
wk_desc
The change that occurred in 9.40 relates to the behaviour of "execute
procedure". June has already given and example.

Art gets the credit for the 'execute procedure' example. I simply tried the
examples posted by both Tom and Art and reported the results.
