Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.

-> The issue raised its head as one of our clients is moving to V.7 and 6 4GL
-> for SPEED REASONS, and I had to furnish reasons about which is best.
OK, on a blind swing here - V7 has a different method of communicating with its
front-ends than V5. The V6 tools are changed to accomodate this. SO - *if* V7
will be faster then you should go to the V6 tools. However, V7 will only be
faster if you have a substantial number of users and / or you implement
fragmentation and / or you have multiple processors.
If none of the above conditions are met, V7 might actually be *slower* than V5
and it's quite a different ballgame to set up and administer. It may be worth
looking at tuning his existing engine or upping RAM / putting in more disks (to
balance the load), etc.
But I personally don't believe that it's worth going from RDS to C for
performance (which may have been your original question :))
