Re: Copy more than one instance on a single tape in Informix

Hi,
that's how ontape works.
You can of course use no-rewind tape devices, but
officially this is not supported. That means you then
are yourself responsible for positioning the tape
correctly before starting a backup or restore.
If you choose to use no-rewind devices, make sure
everybody who is a DBA for this environment knows
about it AND remembers it. It will save you a lot of hassle
and also opening cases with Tech Support "because
the restore doesn't work" ...
Alternatively you could use ON-Bar and ISM (or some
other appropriate storage manager), but that means you
need to do a bit of setup and configuration to make it work.
(And with ISM there's the hassle of "imported restore" in
case you want to restore on a different machine - but that
has been discussed recently and in detail in one of these
lists/news groups ...)
Regards,
Martin
