Re: DAT Tape Drive Worries

We have been using DAT drives with SCO and Informix for several years. We had a number of problems with the 4mm ones and have stopped using them, but the Exabyte 8505 8mm ones have been just fine. We back up everthing on every machine every night and keep weekly tapes forever, often having to restore stuff from a year or more ago - with few problems, even when restoring to a different machine. We use Edge software which catalogs everything, and keep the catalogs (compressed) on line for at least two years.
