Whan you delete records from a table the space is not released. Instead the records are flagged as deleted and can be used by subsequent inserts. So, the records are logically deleted. If this is a problem, i.e. you delibertaly delete the records to free up disk space and don't intend to reuse the same number of records you can always recover the physical space by doing an ALTER INDEX idx_name TO CLUSTER. That will always rebuild the table. But it will need twice as much space temporarily and may affect your performance characteristics. Malcolm Wealans Online Database Consultancy
