I learned this lesson back in '91 or so when I bought DEC stock because of the forthcoming Alpha chip, first 64-bit chip, blow away the competition, blah, blah. It blew away VAX sales, just like IUS hype hurt ODS sales. Informix was worse, however, in that they made the same mistakes as Oracle made circa '91.
