Its parent is the client process, on a unix box the PPID of the sqlturbo is the PID of the client process if they are running on the same box. Use ps -fu. The sqlturbo uses various methods - shared memory, semaphores, etc to communicate with the tbinit process which maintains the database. (That isn't a precise description).
