Yes, you can in 7(since you said tbconfig I'll asumme 5.x or lower)! "SYSMASTER" the SMI DB (GOD DB for Informix 6/7) is created as nonbuffered (best for FAULT tolerance) and ALL DBs MUST be able to communicate with it!
