Informix - import ascii file into database?

A basic guestion. Can one build a database layout in informix and then inport the data from a UNIX file? Do you have to go through a perform screen or can you use a script line to enter and append the data in a database. If yes, how? What commands or instructions. If no, can this be done with Oracle or other database that runs under UNIX & I hate to say it, DOS. TNKS < Robert
