RE: Database Design Software

Kendricks, I participated in a little benchmark against Oracle and Sybase, the first step was to design the database , including recursive relation-ship, some triggers and reverse-engineer. The second Step was to build the prototype ( Once the database was created) including a complex Tree-List View for the recursive relationship and some reports using the Crystal Reports. We used the following products. * ErWin * NewEra 3.0 * Crystal Reports 5.0 * Informix ODS 7.22 for NT 4.0 I never had experience with Erwin before, I installed the product and started modeling my first sample database at home, just one day before going to the customer site, and before I knew I was modeling, reversing and doing everything in the specifications for the benchmark. It is a good product and easy to use. By the way, we won the benchmark and the customer will buy Informix in the next 20 days ( 50 sites with 30 users each site). We proved that we can do things better that Oracle and Sybase :) Regards, Mario Estrada -------------------------------Reply Separator----------------------------- ---------- From: KENDRICKS.CHERYL@heb.com[SMTP:KENDRICKS.CHERYL@heb.com] Sent: Friday, August 15, 1997 5:54 AM To: informix-list@rmy.emory.edu Cc: * Subject: Database Design Software REPOST from 8/13....since no response as of yet.... I have used Power Designer 6, S-Designor and heard of ERWIN for Informix Databases. I am wondering has anyone used or reviewed "Select SE/Server Builder" in particular Release 6.2.2? I am interested in heariang your views and opinions concerning this Database Design software. Especially if you used/reviewed S-Designor or ERWIN for an Informix and/or DB2 (MVS Mainframe).
