Prepared cursors only save time if they are reused many times. Then the overhead of optimizing the query is spent once and taken advantage of frequently thereafter. Otherwise the frontend software does not matter for pure SQL. The engine does the actual work after all so it does not matter whether CLI/JDBC/ESQL-C/ESQL-COBOL/ISQL/C4GL/R4GL the query's runtime is the same. Art S. Kagel
