Have you checked that index that the first query used (oncheck -cDI)? Sounds like a corrupted index to me. If the table is large and the index is indeed bad I recommend telling oncheck to NOT rebuild the index but to drop and rebuild the index manually with PDQPRIORITY, PSORT_NPROCS, PSORT_MAXALLOC, and PSORT_DBTEMP set for maximum speed.
