Basic things about Informix on NT

I've always worked with informix on Unix, now one client has it on NT, so I would like to know basic things about Informix on NT, the main differences comparing to unix, the names of the graphic utilities, how to access the admin utilities from a workstation. Thanks in advance, -- Ricardo Palmeira Tribunal de Contas do Estado de Pernambuco mailto:palmeira@tce.pe.gov.br
If you already work with Informix Online on Unix, you are used to ontape,
oncheck, onstat and so on. I know there's some differences between release
7.2* and 7.3* (7.30 TC?) as the first one still use many command-line
utilities while the last (Informix Dynamic Server as they call it) offers
a graphic utility called IECC to manages disk space and backups.

If you have always worked with Informix on Unix then get a Unix shell
for NT and this way you will still be able to use your Unix management
routines. I'm new to the whole Unix shell thing but the one that Art
Kagel and Carlton Doe recommend is MKS Korn shell that comes with MKS
Tools. The IECC tool is truly a version 1.0 tool and does not work all
that well. Stick with the on_ __ _ utilities and you will do just fine
just remember to always set your environment and life will be good. I
use rconsole which comes with the NT resource kit and do most of my
database management from my workstation using the command line routines
onparams, dbaccess, oncheck, onmode, and onstat . I have also installed
the administration tools locally on my workstation and use SQLeditor,
Replication Manger, and dbexplorer from my workstation to manage remote
Informix servers. The biggest thing is that you do not have a SQLHOSTS
file this information is now in the registry. As long as you get the
information in the registry correctly the rest is a piece of cake.
I hope this helps.
