Informix GUI Tools
Posted in 2019
SangGyu Jeong asked which GUI tools Informix users employ besides Aqua Data Studio, DBeaver, Squirrel SQL, WinSQL and IBM Data Studio. Fernando Nunes added DbVisualizer and pointed to his method for getting text explain plans from any client tool. Art Kagel said most GUI SQL tools work, though some need the ODBC catalog tables. SangGyu thanked them.

Hi all, I'm curious what tools users who use Informix DB use when running SQL in a GUI environment. Until now, when I visited a client, their developers and system administrators were using programs such as Aqua Data Studio, AGS Server Studio, DBeaver, Squirrel SQL, and WinSQL. Of course, some users use DB-access in a terminal window. I'm usually used to Terminal screen, so I rarely use GUI tools(I love Cygwin), but customers are always asking if there are any tools that are more convenient than they are currently using. My personal opinion is that IBM Data Studio is a good alternative, but it feels heavier in terms of runtime or installation capacity than the tools mentioned above. And the feature to view Informix explain plans seems to be limited compared to Db2. Are there any other GUI tools except those mentioned above? ------------------------------ SangGyu Jeong Software Engineer Infrasoft Seoul Korea, Republic of ------------------------------ #Informix
One not in the list is DBVisualizer ( DbVisualizer ). One additional note: You can get text explains from queries in any Informix version currently supported (and some more - 9.1+), while using ANY tool by following some relatively simple steps: Execution plans on the client / Planos de execução nos clientes Informix-technology remove preview Execution plans on the client / Planos de execução nos clientes This article is written in Englsih and Portuguese Este artigo está escrito em Inglês e Português Life is full of coincidences... Because IIUG announced the 2013 IIUG user's conference, to be held in Sand Diego on 21-25 April, I spent some time reviewing my 2010 presentation. SangGyu: The tools you mentioned are all good ones. Most GUI SQL tools will work with Informix, though to get best support from some you may have to implement the standard ODBC catalog tables.
